There are still some issues like connected network drives when you use office at your work place.

With the help of simple vbscript you can simply disconnect to network drives and printers.

1. Download it and open this script in notepad.

2. Replace with your network drive letter no.9 strDriveLetter = “:” For example: strDriveLetter = “H:”

3. Save this script and place it in the startup programs

4. Open Start >> All Programs >> Startup , right click on it and select open.

5. paste the script here in this startup folder.

6. Now restart your windows, your network drives will be automatically disconnected and your my computer will open faster.

7. That’s it done.

If you are encountering the one of the most common problem of slow opening of my computer in windows xp and contents of my computer as a result display very lately then you will be surprised to know that your computer is not old or slow but there is simple fix to this problem.

Why Does My computer opens slowly ?

The main reason behind is the default option being checked in windows xp to search for network drives and printers every time you open my computer and there may be network drives which are being accessed when you open my computer.

How to Speed up My Computer Opening

1. Open My computer>>File Menu>>Tools>>Folder Options >>View

2. Uncheck the first checkbox which says "Automatically search for Network folders and printers"

3. You can also simply Disconnect the Map drives to solve this issue,

Go to Tools>>Disconnect the Map Drives(Network Drives) and select the network drive to disconnect.

Updated on 27 May 2008:

As suggested by one of the reader Zamora525 another reason behind slow opening of your my computer may be due to a windows service called ‘windows image acuisitions (WIA)’ - Provides image acquisition services for scanners and cameras.

You need to stop it by the commands given below.

1. Open Start >> Run or press window+r

2. type net stop "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)"

You can also disable the service by following the procedure given below

1. Open Start >> Run or press window+r

2. type services.msc and press enter

3. Now locate the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) among the services and right click on it to select properties.

Now Stop the service if it is already running by clicking the stop button and select the startup type for the service as disabled. (as shown in the image below)

How to get the password for microsoft access protected file

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

It happens some time when you lost the password for a database microsoft access file.

As file is password protected so it will not open up without the correct password entered, in order to solve the problem you can simply use a free password revealing utility by nirsoft.net

It’s called Access PassView, the only limitation with this program is that it works for every password-protected mdb file that created with Microsoft Access 95/97/2000/XP.

Limitations Access Pass View:

1. It cannot recover user level password.

2. cannot recover password more than 18 characters.

How to use:

By Drag & Drop: You can get the password for any mdb file by dragging it from the explorer window on to the Access PassView window.

I was searching a way on how can we convert any screensaver of windows vista to make it work in win xp and I found some vista screensavers prorated for xp.

Windows vista offers some very cool screensavers like.. Aurora, Bubbles, Mystify, Ribbons.

Out of all these I like the bubble screensaver the most, all these screensavers looks awesome but the bubble screensaver is the best as it does not change the desktop background when it’s running. ( as shown in the image below )

( Click the image on the left to enlarge it )

How to Install these screensavers?

Unzip the downloaded .zip file and copy the .scr files of the corresponding screensavers in C:\Windows\System32 ( assuming C: is the directory where you have installed windows ).

After copying them you can easily locate them under the drop down of the existing screensavers in win xp.

Make desktop icons background colour as transparent in windows xp and vista

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

I have been juggling around for so many days in order to find the correct settings in Windows XP , so as to make the icons appear smooth with each and every desktop wallpaper. ( as shown in the image below ).

Icons With Background Colour

icons-with-background-color

Icons Without Background Colour

icons-without-background-colour

Out of the above two which one do you like, your choice is up to you but most people like the second one ( icons without background colour ).

The only problem with the icons with background colour is whenever you set a new desktop wallpaper you may need to select different background colour for your icons too so that they look better with your new wallpaper.

But there is setting both in windows XP and vista to make the background colour of icons as transparent.

Let’s see how to do it.

For windows XP and Vista

1. Right click on the My Computer, select properties.

2. Click on the Advanced Tab ( as shown in the image below ).

computer-advanced-tab

3. Click the on the Settings button, you will see a new window showing numerous number of options related to the GUI of windows. ( as shown in the image below).

4. As highlighted in the image above make sure to check the box which says “Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop“. and click Ok 2 times.

5. That’s it ! Done.
