Disable popup warnings in Windows XP

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

Windows XP may be one of the more stable and developed operating systems (Vista is like a beta right now). But there are many irritating aspects in Windows XP.

Windows has a really stupid popup system, which pops up for every unnecessary thing imaginable. For example, there is a popup to warn that disk space is low on the system drive (usually C:\). Also, there is a popup for alerting you that a new program installed. As if you didn't know that you've installed a program!

There is an easy registry hack to get rid of all these popups. Do not be appalled by a registry edit - this is really simple.

Open up the registry editor - go to Run, type regedit and click OK. Backing up the registry before a hack is always a good idea, so click File > Export, choose a location and click save. Then, proceed to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Right click on the right-hand pane, make New> DWORD Value and name it EnableBallonTips. Set the value to 0 to disable ballontips, and set it back to 1 to enable balloontips.

This hack disables most balloontips. In order to eliminate all popups, some more work is required. In each of the following locations, change the values to 0 to disable balloontips.

Location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\

1. Change the value of FolderContentsInfoTip to 0

Location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\

1. Change the value of ShowInfoTip to 0.

Location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\tips\Show

1. Change the value of Show to 0

If anything goes wrong, restore the registry file that you had explored before and settings will be restored.

Lock Your Drives and Folders Using Registry Tweaks

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

There are plenty of software which locks drives and folder to protect your confidential data. Why waste money on such tools when you can do it with a simple registry tweak? Here's how:

Caution: Before you attempt these tweaks, please make sure that you have a backup of your registry, just incase something goes wrong in the middle.

Locking Folders:

 • Consider you want to lock a folder named XXXX in your E:\, whose path is E:\XXXX.
 • Now open the Notepad and type the following
ren xxxx xxxx.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}
• Where xxxx is your folder name. Save the text file as loc.bat in the same drive.
 • Open another new notepad text file and type the following
ren xxxx.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} xxxx
• Save the text file as key.bat in the same drive.

Steps to lock the folder:

 • To lock the xxxx folder, simply click the loc.bat and it will transform into control panel icon which is inaccessible.
 • To unlock the folder click the key.bat file. Thus the folder will be unlocked and the contents are accessible.

Locking Drives:

We don’t usually prefer to lock our drives, but sometimes it becomes nesscary. Say for instance you might have stored your office documents in D:\ and you don’t want your kids to access it, in such case this technique can be useful for you. Please don’t try this tweak with your root drive (usually C:\ is the root drive) since root drives are not intended to be locked because they are mandatory for the system and application programs.

 • Start & Run and type Regedit to open Registry editor
 • Browse HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer
 • Create a new DWORD value NoViewOnDrive and set its value as

2^ (Alpha Number of Drive Letter-1) where Alpha number are simple counting of alphabets from A to Z as 1 - 26

For example: to lock C:\, Alpha number of C is 3 so 2^ (3-1) = 4 (decimal value)

 • To lock more drives, calculate the value of each drive and then set sum of those numbers as value
 • To unlock your drive just delete the key from the registry.

how to search google for RAPIDSHARE links

If you wanna find some apps, files etc on rapidshare.de via google, do the following.

Paste this into the google search window (not the adress bar):

site:rapidshare.de -filetype:zip OR rar daterange:2453402-2453412

this searches the site rapidshare.de for any file that is rar or zip, and
has been indexed between 1-11 February.

dvd site:rapidshare.de -filetype:zip OR rar daterange:2453402-2453412

This is the same search but it specifically searches for “dvd” with the same
search criteria, so any app posted with the word dvd in it will be found.

SOME IMPORTANT SEARCH STRING
Try these search string in different way
intitle:”Index of” passwords modified
allinurl:auth_user_file.txt
“access denied for user” “using password”
“A syntax error has occurred” filetype:ihtml
allinurl: admin mdb
“ORA-00921: unexpected end of SQL command”
inurl:passlist.txt
“Index of /backup”
“Chatologica MetaSearch” “stack tracking:”

“parent directory ” /appz/ -xxx -html -htm -php -shtml -opendivx -md5 -md5sums

“parent directory ” DVDRip -xxx -html -htm -php -shtml -opendivx -md5 -md5sums
“parent directory “Xvid -xxx -html -htm -php -shtml -opendivx -md5 -md5sums
“parent directory ” Gamez -xxx -html -htm -php -shtml -opendivx -md5 -md5sums
“parent directory ” MP3 -xxx -html -htm -php -shtml -opendivx -md5 -md5sums
“parent directory ” Name of Singer or album -xxx -html -htm -php -shtml -opendivx -md5 -md5sums
Notice that I am only changing the word after the parent directory, change it to what you want and you will get a lot of stuff.
nurl:microsoft filetype:iso
You can change the string to watever you want, ex. microsoft to adobe, iso to zip etc…

“# -FrontPage-” inurl:service.pwd
Frontpage passwords.. very nice clean search results listing !!

“AutoCreate=TRUE password=*”
This searches the password for “Website Access Analyzer”, a Japanese software that creates webstatistics. For those who can read Japanese, check out the author’s site at: coara.or.jp/~passy/ [coara.or.jp/~passy/]

“http://*:*@www” domainname
This is a query to get inline passwords from search engines (not just Google), you must type in the query followed with the the domain name without the .com or .net

“sets mode: +k”
This search reveals channel keys (passwords) on IRC as revealed from IRC chat logs.

allinurl: admin mdb
Not all of these pages are administrator’s access databases containing usernames, passwords and other sensitive information, but many are!

allinurl:auth_user_file.txt
DCForum’s password file. This file gives a list of (crackable) passwords, usernames and email addresses for DCForum and for DCShop (a shopping cart program(!!!).

intitle:”Index of” config.php
This search brings up sites with “config.php” files. To skip the technical discussion, this configuration file contains both a username and a password for an SQL database. Most sites with forums run a PHP message base. This file gives you the keys to that forum, including FULL ADMIN access to the database.

eggdrop filetype:user user
These are eggdrop config files. Avoiding a full-blown descussion about eggdrops and IRC bots, suffice it to say that this file contains usernames and passwords for IRC users

To locate proxy servers
try these queries:
inurl:”nph-proxy.cgi” “Start browsing”
or
“this proxy is working fine!” “enter *” “URL***” * visit
These queries locate online public proxy servers that can be used for
testing purposes.
Calculator
This trick is extra cool: You can use the blank Google search box as a calculator. Just enter an equation, like 2+2, and then press Enter to have Google tell you 2+2=4. For multiplication, use the asterisk (*), like this: 2*3. For division, use the slash (/), like this: 10/3. You can also use the search box to perform unit conversions, like this: 5 kilometers in miles or how many teaspoons in a cup? For a chart listing of units of measure Google can convert, The calculator works for simple equations and for some seriously complex operations, too, like logarithms and trigonometric functions. You can find a rundown of all its capabilities at. And if you know what a physical constant is or the phrase “base of the natural system of logarithms”
Changing the Number of Results
In the middle of a Google results URL, you can sometimes find num=, which tells you the number of search results Google gives you per page of results. You can temporarily change the number of results to anything from 1 to 100 simply by altering the number in the URL and then pressing Enter. Most of the time, search results are easiest to read when you’ve got 10, 20, or 30 per page . But this trick is a quick way to amp up the number of results on a page for the rare times when you want to review a lot of them at once or compare results 1 and 100 on one page.
Unsafe searching.
The SafeSearch filter tells Google to remove potentially offensive links from your results. The problem is, sometimes the filter gets carried away and removes things you need . To make sure the filter is off, add this to the end of your URL: &safe=off. To make sure it’s on, add &safe=on.

Removing Unwanted Fonts

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

One trick that increases your boot time a bit is to lose any fonts in the Fonts folder in
Control Panel that you never use. The more fonts you have, the more processing
Windows XP has to do to prep all of those fonts for use. You must be a bit careful
here to not remove fonts that you might want, but there is a good chance that you can
live without many of them.
To delete unneeded fonts, follow these steps:
1. Open the Fonts folder in Control Panel.
2. Select Edit/Select All and then Edit/Copy.
3. Create a new folder on your desktop, open it, and select Edit/Paste.
4. In this new folder, delete any of the fonts you do not want.
5. Return to the Fonts folder in Control Panel. Right-click the selected fonts and click Delete.
6. Go back to your new desktop folder and click Edit/Select All.
7. Return to your Fonts folder and click Edit/Paste. You now have only the desired
fonts in the Fonts folder.

Speed up Firefox without Re-Installation

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

Problem: You cannot imagine life without Firefox but over time, your favorite browser keeps getting slower and slower.

Not only is it slow, Firefox sometimes hangs for no reason, consumes a large amount of memory and CPU usage can climb to 90% or more when you have multiple tabs open simultaneously.

You have uninstalled most of the extensions and toolbars, deleted all the cookies and internet temporary files, cleared up the file download queue and disabled the background check for software updates - but none of this has helped you speed-up Firefox.
Solution: This is a common problem especially if you have been running Firefox for some time - I don't know why Firefox slows down but here's a small trick to rejuvenate the aged copy of Firefox without doing a fresh install.

Step 1: Start Firefox and export your bookmarks as a file on your hard-drive (we'll need them later).

Step 2: Type firefox.exe - P in the Run box of Windows. (see screenshot)

Step 3: Click the Create Profile button without making any modifications to your existing profile (which is normally called "default")

Now when you Start Firefox in the new profile, you are very likely to be impressed with the speed. You can import the bookmarks that you saved in Step 1. If you have made any changes to the Firefox Dictionary, copy the persdict.dat word list file from the old profile folder to the new one.

Yes, there won't be any old Firefox add-ons in the new profile but the browser will be extremely quick and won't hog the CPU - just the way you want Firefox to run on your computer.

And if you ever need to revert to the old profile, just type Firefox -P again and click the old profile. Nothing is lost.

Create a shortcut to lock a PC in Vista.

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

Slice steps off your system log-off routine by putting a log-off shortcut on your desktop.

Start by right-clicking an empty space on the desktop and then selecting New shortcut. In the space below Type the location of the item, type in rundll32.exe user32.DLL, LockWorkStation (remember to watch your spacing and case).

Finally, create a clever name for the icon besides the default "rundll32"—how about "Lock PC"? Then click the shortcut to lock your computer with ease.

A quick info-fact:

With this technique of hiding files in a jpg you can send this to anyone and they just have to rename the file extension to .zip or .rar.

With this technique the Al-Qaeda operatives were able to send info to others secretively.

I have tried my best to keep the article of hiding files in jpg as simple as possible. If you have any view or problem about this files hiding article, you can express them in comments section or can even mail me.

Hacking website: Taking down a website.

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

I was searching around the web the other day.. and i found this beautiful article informing about the method to take down a website. I found many of my visitors interested a lot in this topic of hacking a website. So, i decided to add this wonderful website hacking article. Here, method of DDOS attack is used.

So, lets start.

Hacking/Taking Down Websites:

In this tutorial, I will show you how to take down websites via DDoS. For this tutorial we will be using one of the most effective and one of the least known tools called "Low Orbit Ion Cannon", created by Anonymous members from 4chan.org, this program is one of the best for DDoS'ing, and I have successfully used it to DDoS websites. An internet connection as bad as mine (2,500 kb/s) was able to keep a site down for a day with this program running. Remember that this tool will work best with high internet speeds, and try not to go for impossible targets (like Google, Myspace,Yahoo). LOIC is used on a single computer, but with friends it's enough to give sites a great deal of downtime.

Prerequisites: Download LOIC (Low Orbit Ion Cannon). Open up LOIC.

Step 1: Type the target URL in the URL box.

Step 2: Click lock on.

Step 3: Change the threads to 9001 for maximum efficiency.

Step 4: Click the big button "IMMA FIRIN MAH LAZAR!"

Feel free to tweak around with these settings and play around with the program to get the best performance. Then minimize and go do whatever you need to do, the program will take care of the rest!

DOWNLOAD HERE: http://rapidshare.com/files/104926676/LOIC.exe

I would like to inform you that i have not yet tried this hack, so i cant tell you much about it...sorry for that. But, you can help me out by commenting your experience or even by mailing me.

Access computer remotely using backdoor.

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

I have added this post to explain all consequences when a backdoor is installed on your computer.

The post explains all things a hacker can do after installing a backdoor on victims computer.

What an outsider can do:

1. Log on to your computer and operate/access it from a remote location.

2. Access your email list and/or use your Internet connection. This is called SMTP hijacking and is hugely popular with email scammers such as Nigerian con artists and email spammers who send out worms, viruses, unsolicited advertising, etc. When you track the email path, it shows that the letter was sent from a corporation in Walla Walla, Washington or from a college in Texas instead of from it's true origin.

3. Find files/documents that are not protected and destroy, copy, email, and alter them. That's why it's so important to install software like Folder Access.

4. Run programs, alter or delete programs.

5. Install hidden programs to watch what you do with your computer and where you go on the Internet. Spyware can keep a record of every web site you visit, every email you write, every chat in a chat room (public or private), every Private Message, every online purchase you make, every bit of online banking you do.

Keyloggers can record every keystroke you make, including passwords, user names, identification numbers, bank account numbers, and credit card numbers. To prevent such attacks, you need to install SecureClean to uncover existing malicious programs and prevent others from being installed.

6. Move from computer to computer within a network, access servers, steal and/or alter passwords, sensitive information, and personnel information.

7. Insert worms, viruses, and spyware into the computer owner or network owner's email programs, web sites or pages, ad banners, and downloads.

8. Crash a single computer or move through a network crashing one computer after the other. SOS Data Protection & Recovery Software is a real life-saver in that situation.

9. Send hundreds of requests to a network server that the server can't respond to (this is can cause a corporate web site to crash if it's the server where the site is stored); send hundreds of large emails to employees causing the email program to overload.

10. Change the path information takes through a network by inserting redirects that can cause the information to loop endlessly until the information transfer is rejected, or the altered path may send the information to a competitor.

The above malice list covers the highlights. Once malicious access has occurred to an individual computer or a network, so much damage is possible that recovery can be prohibitively expensive and public embarrassment overwhelming.

Easiest way to Hack/access computer remotely using RAT Poison ivy

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

Here in this post, i am mentioning about software program "Poison ivy" which is actually a RAT(Remote Administration Tool), by which a hacker can access any server installed computer remotely. I would like to add over here that this is not my tutorial, i found this tutorial perfect and so i have added this over here.

Requirements:
---------------------------------
no-ip.biz account (see below for instructions)
RAT of your choice, I will be showing Poison Ivy
No-IP client
Know how to port forward (people behind routers only)
---------------------------------

Intro to RATs
---------------------------------
So here we go. I'm going to show you how to setup a RAT. A RAT can stand for a few things:
Remote Administration Tool
Remote Access Tool
Remote Access Trojan
Remote Administration Trojan
and probably more.
In any event, it doesn't matter. What you need to know is that it allows you to access the target computer from yours, using the trojan. Now it may help you to look this up on:

wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_administration_tool
---------------------------------

No IP
---------------------------------
First of all, go here:

http://www.no-ip.com/newUser.php

and sign up for an account there. After that log into the site with the account you just created and add your new domain. SEE PIC no-ip.png
Now download the dynamic update client from the downloads tab at the top of the no-ip site. Install that when you are done, and you can update your IP for your domain by logging into the client and updating. Pretty easy.
---------------------------------

Port Forwarding
---------------------------------
If you are not behind a router, skip this. If you are, read on.

You should know how to forward ports on your router. If you dont, head to google, and find out. Each router is different. Usually you can type 192.168.1.1 (or your router's IP address for your LAN) in the address bar of your browser. If you got the right LAN IP, a login box will appear, log in. Default is usually admin:password, or something similar. You're on your own here.
When you finally get int, forward port 3460. That's all.
Hulk11 pointed out that admin:admin is commonly used in routers as well.
---------------------------------

Getting the RAT
---------------------------------
Head over to:

http://www.poisonivy-rat.com/index.php?link=download

and download the latest version. At the time of posting it was 2.3.2.
Download that and unzip it.
---------------------------------

Using the RAT
---------------------------------
hack computer remotely Poison ivy

Open up poison ivy, and click File>New Client. We are going to set up Poison Ivy to listen for connections on the port you forwarded. Default is 3460. Type in a password for your RAT and click start. You will need this password later.

Now File>New Server. Click create profile. Make it look like Server1.png Be sure that the password you put here and the password here match.

Click next and make your server look like Server2.png. You will need to select Active X and click the random button. Having the server melt is up to you, I wouldn't pick melt when it is bound to another file. When the file is sent by itself, usually choose to melt it. Click next

Make your server look like Server3.png. Ignore the thing about the keylogger making it unstable. Not much else here. Click next.

You can choose an icon here, or use a resource editor like ResHacker to chage it later. After you do that, click Generate at the bottom and save the .EXE somewhere.
---------------------------------

Testing the RAT
---------------------------------
You can run the server on yourself to test it, this is relatively safe because you have the password to connect to it. When you run the server, you should see yourself in the Poison Ivy Connection's tab.
Notice the pop up box from the system try alerting you of a new connection. That's nice. You can see this in Working.png I have edited out the IP addresses of those not on LAN as well as their computer user names and such in order to protect them. To connect to a server, double click the entry in the connections tab. Behold! You are in their PC!
---------------------------------

Distributing
---------------------------------
You can distribute the server file by itself, or bind it to other files. This is where you get to do as you please. Get creative!
---------------------------------

Well that is about it. You can use this knowledge with other RATs and such. So guys, i assume that this tutorial will help you in hacking or accessing any computer remotely. Just download the software poison ivy and start hacking remote computers/pc. By using Poison ivy, one can extract/crack all password hashes present in victim's computer, take a screenshot of victim's computer and many more.

How to disable Ctrl+C at Windows startup

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

The problem: Windows lets anyone press the Ctrl+C keys during its initial booting phase and stop the booting. If the user is knowledgeable enough about the MSDOS mode, s/he can then examine the contents of all your drives and folders, etc. To prevent this from happening, you can reconfigure your computer to disable the Ctrl+C keys in the MSDOS mode.

The following method may be used to fix this problem:

First, make a backup copy of the C:\CONFIG.SYS file (just in case something goes wrong) by copying this file onto your emergency startup disk. Also, make sure that you can actually use the startup disk to boot your computer into the MSDOS mode.

Open C:\CONFIG.SYS with Notepad and add the following line at the very beginning of the file:

BREAK=OFF

Now save the file and reboot the computer.

For more information about the CONFIG.SYS file and its contents, please refer to the file Config.txt, installed by Windows in your C:\Windows folder.

Note: Note that this setting also disables Ctrl+C for all programs running in the MSDOS mode.

5 best Password managers-solution to forgot and hacking of passwords.

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

You've got enough to keep track of in your day-to-day life without filling your head with the countless logins and passwords you've racked up over the years, and the Post-It note on your monitor just isn't an option. Luckily, there are several fantastic and secure password management applications designed to make it easy for you to remember, manage, and secure your passwords effortlessly. and now we're back with the five most popular picks. Keep reading for a detailed look at each application, then cast your vote to help us pick the best password manager on the block.

Sxipper (All platforms)

Password manager Sxipper
Firefox extension Sxipper adds password management, auto-logins, and automatic form filling to Firefox. If you don't want to manually create multiple identities to fill in forms, Sxipper may be perfect for you. It can automatically learn and build personas for you based on information you've used to fill in forms. Sxipper builds on top of Firefox's default password manager, meaning all of your passwords remain safely encrypted and stored on your computer.

KeePass (All platforms)

Password manager Keepass
Desktop application KeePass is a free, open-source password manager with a robust and easy-to-use feature set. KeePass secures your passwords with a single master password and/or a key-file on your computer. KeePass is a Windows application, but an OS X- and Linux-compatible version—called KeePassX—is available with slightly less polish than the Windows counterpart. For those of you who'd like to take your passwords with you, KeePass is available as a portable application and as PocketPC, Symbian, BlackBerry, and PalmOS ports. KeePass doesn't come with built-in browser integration, but you can invoke a global, auto-login keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+A by default) when KeePass is running in your system tray.

1Password (Mac OS X)

1password
Mac app 1Password is a commercial password manager and form filler for Mac OS X. Like RoboForm for Windows, 1Password integrates directly with your browser (Firefox or Safari) to auto-fill logins and forms. Like most of the rest, 1Password can automatically generate secure passwords for you, and all you need to remember is your master password.Currently 1Password supports syncing with .Mac accounts, but my1Password is under development to provide synchronization as well as online access to your passwords from any browser. 1Password will set you back $35, Mac OS X only.

RoboForm (Windows)

manager Roboform
Desktop application and browser toolbar RoboForm is a popular password and form management utility for Windows only. In addition to password management, RoboForm lets you create identities to automatically fill in web forms. RoboForm is available in both freeware and shareware ($30) versions; the free version is very limited, though, so chances are you'll want to pony up for a license if you take this route. A portable version, called RoboForm2Go, is also available for $20. Like KeePass, RoboForm is available to carry on your Windows Mobile, Symbian, or Palm devices. Unlike KeePass, RoboForm sports a robust browser plug-in for seamless integration with Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Firefox's Password Manager (All platforms)

When it comes to password management, many of you look no further than Firefox's built-in password manager. It's free, it's there when you need it, and it's a no-brainer to integrate into your workflow. One word of caution, though: If you're going to stick with Firefox's password manager, be sure to secure your saved passwords with a master password. If you don't, all it takes for someone to peek at every single one of your passwords is clicking the Show Passwords button in the Saved Passwords dialog.

Get your Gmail on mobile via SMS

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

Here is what you need to do for getting your emails delivered to your cell phone as SMS instantaneously.

All this is done by SMS-to-Email service providers, currently offered by Mobee and Mytoday.

mobee_logo Mobee.in has an awesome interface and delivers your mail of up to 400 characters but it is a premium service now, though for testing purpose you can avail a free account which will give you only 3 E-mail notification per day. But at any point of time, you may migrate to their premium plans which cost as little as Rs. 30 Per Month and gives some great features like, reply to a mail by SMS or forwarding any mail. And all this is operated using a non-premium ten digit mobile number which costs you as low as a normal SMS.

m3m Mytoday, on the other hand, another big player in SMS world, has also started such Email-to-SMS service for ‘free’ under the name Email2Sms (M3M). Though the service is free, it has got certain limitations too. As a free user, you can only avail a limited alerts of 100 SMS notifications per year and if you wish to get unlimited SMS alerts, it will cost you a reasonable amount of 999 bucks per year. Any ways considering it to be free (upto 100 alerts/year), we can surely give it a try, also this is one time setup process.

Basically the whole system works by setting up an auto forwarding in your mail box to a specified mail id provided to you by the ‘Email-to-SMS’ service provider. As per the service provider, all your Emails are being stored in an encrypted form and cannot be viewed by them. I am still wondering on how secure your personal data would be, so please use this service at your own risk. ;) Further detailed instructions on setting up auto forwarding can be availed once you sign-up for the respective services.

m3m1

My Review: Personally, I have used both the services, Mobee was outstanding as I have used a premium version of it and have not got any complaints with it. M3M is equally good. You give it a try and let us know your comments on it.

Changing Drive Letters in Windows 2000

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

If you find the need to change a drive letter, Windows 2000 makes this possible. Here’s how:
In the Control Panel, select Administrative Tools. The Administrative Tools folder will pop up.

In that folder, select Computer Management.
Click on Disk Management and wait for the Logical Disk Manager Service to finish scanning your system’s drives. You will then see a list of the drives available in your system. 1. Click on the drive with the drive letter you want to change.

2. Right click and select the Change Drive Letter and Path… option.

3. All drive letters linked to that drive will be listed on this popup screen.

4. Click on the drive letter you want to change and click on Edit.

5. Click on the drive letter and a whole list of available drive letter choices will now appear.

6. Select the drive letter you want for this drive.

7. Click OK and your drive will have a new drive letter.

Notes: You will not be able to change the drive letter of your system or boot volume. However, the drive letters of all other drives and drive volumes are changeable.

If you want to change the drive letter of a CD/DVD-ROM or ZIP drive, make sure you insert a disk first. The drive letter cannot be changed unless there’s a disk in the drive.

Some software may not work properly if you change any drive letter. So, you may need to do some registry editing to get that software to work with the new drive letter. If that doesn’t work, you will have to reinstall the software using the new drive letter or reset the drive letter back to its original drive letter.

Change your Windows XP Boot Screen

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

This is a very simple trick to do if you have done the same for the logon screen and the start button. There are 2 ways to do this trick that I know about one is doing it manually and the other is using a program called bootxp. I am going to tell you the manual way to do it, but if you want to know the other way just let me know, so I can do an update to the guide. Now once you have downloaded your ntoskrnl.exe file save it a general location so that you will have easy access to it, like my folder.

Once you have ntoskrnl.exe file in an easy access folder, restart your PC into safe mode. Once into safe mode go to the folder where your files are located.

Now that you are there copy the file that you want to change your boot screen too. Once you have copied that file, hit the window key + r or type %windir%\system32 in the run command, so that folder as follows.

Once there paste your new file into the folder and overwrite the existing folder.

Now that you have your new file in the folder restart your PC as you normally would and your new boot screen should appear. You can download this bootscreen here.

ALWAYS BACKUP EVERYTHING YOU EDIT OR DELETE. I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU MESS YOUR COMPUTER UP BY DOING THIS HACK OR ANY TYPE OF HACK. DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Protect Folders with Password in Windows XP

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

Do you share a computer with other users and want some extra security on your folders? There are two ways to password protect a folder built into Windows XP (for other Windows flavors, there are some freeware/shareware programs out there).
1. If you have a log in password for your account, this can be used to protect folders from other users. Your hard drive must be formatted using NTFS (which it probably is unless you're dual booting with another operating system). Here's what to do…
Right-click the folder that you want to make private and choose "Properties" (or Alt+Double-click). Go to the "Sharing" tab and check the "Make this folder private" box.
Click Apply . If you do not have a password on your account, a box will pop up asking if you want to assign a password. This must be done if you want to make the folder private, so click Yes . You will need to use your password to log on to your computer from then on.
Type in a password then confirm it. Click the "Create Password" button then close the Password window.
Click OK in the Properties dialog box.
Now anyone else logged on to your computer can't access that file without knowing your password.
2. If the Folder is Zipped you can give it a unique password.
Just double-click the zipped folder. In the top menu select File then click "Add a Password".
Type a password into the Password box. Then again in the "Confirm Password" box.
Now, you are the only person who can access files in this folder. The folder can be opened allowing the files to be seen, but you are the only one who can access them.
Don't you feel more secure now?

How do you get back the Folder Options in Windows XP?

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

Open regedit in your start>run>regedit browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\policies\Explorer If you find "NoFolderOptions" value, delete it.

Enable Administrator at Welcome Screen

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

View Admin At welcome Screen

By default windows XP doesn't show the Administrator in the user list at the welcome screen. Here's a way to get around it.

Now head up to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\Userlist

Create a new DWORD entry and name it as Administrator and change its value to 1.

Exit and reboot for the changes to take effect.

To change it back change its value to 0 or simply delete the key.

How does satellite Internet operate

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

How do you access the Internet other than dial-up if you live too far from a phone company office for DSL and there is no cable TV on your street? Satellite Internet access may be worth considering. It's ideal for rural Internet users who want broadband access.

Satellite Internet does not use telephone lines or cable systems, but instead uses a satellite dish for two-way (upload and download) data communications. Upload speed is about one-tenth of the 500 kbps download speed. Cable and DSL have higher download speeds, but satellite systems are about 10 times faster than a normal modem.

Firms that offer or plan to offer two-way satellite Internet include StarBand, Pegasus Express, Teledesic and Tachyon. Tachyon service is available today in the United States, Western Europe and Mexico. Pegasus Express is the two-way version of DirecPC.

Two-way satellite Internet consists of:

* * Approximately a two-foot by three-foot dish
* * Two modems (uplink and downlink)
* * Coaxial cables between dish and modem

The key installation planning requirement is a clear view to the south, since the orbiting satellites are over the equator area. And, like satellite TV, trees and heavy rains can affect reception of the Internet signals.

Two-way satellite Internet uses Internet Protocol (IP) multicasting technology, which means up to 5,000 channels of communication can simultaneously be served by a single satellite. IP multicasting sends data from one point to many points (at the same time) by sending data in compressed format. Compression reduces the size of the data and the bandwidth. Usual dial-up land-based terrestrial systems have bandwidth limitations that prevent multicasting of this magnitude.

Some satellite-Internet service still requires you to have a dial-up or cable modem connection for the data you send to the Internet. The satellite data downlink is just like the usual terrestrial link, except the satellite transmits the data to your computer via the same dish that would allow you to receive a Pay-Per-View television program.

So, if you are in a rural area and you want broadband access to the Internet, satellite Internet may be for you!

Boot In Safe Mode Without Pressing F8 Key

Posted by Laxman Kudva in

Recently one of my friend asked me how can he reboot his computer in safe mode without pressing the F8 key at the time of booting which is normally required fro booting windows in safe mode.

Some times there could be a case when you may not want to press the F8 key or even if you press the F8 key your key your system does not boot in Safe Mode as the F8 key on your keyboard may malfunction and also pressing F8 key is also important to boot into safe mode while booting.
